Tired Old Soldiers
Character Tab All you need to know! This guide will give you everything you need in order to set up and use character accounts. To start you will need to have registered an OOC account as one is required to use the characters tab. Anyone who registers as a character will be asked to change it to an OOC one so the feature can be used properly. The first thing you'll need to do is navigate to the characters tab, found at the top of the page. There is an image here. Once there you'll see a 'new character' button on the upper right. Click on it to make your character. Image provided here. A form will pop up, with a number of fields for you to fill out. It includes Name, Title (essentially like the custom title you can have on an ooc account), Avatar (square image), Signature, Big Avatar (what shows up in posts - 250x400), Nickname, Character Age, Pronouns, Occupation, Canon/OC, Fandom, Faceclaim, Artist, RP preferences, Timezone, Mature content opt in/out, and contact preference. Any field you don't want to fill out you can simply leave blank and it won't show up on the character's profile or mini-profile. Example here. Once you've created a character, you can easily manage them by navigating to the character tab and locating them there, or by viewing them on the character tab on your own OOC profile. Once on the page, there's a 'manage character' button you can click. Image here. The options here vary depending on your usergroup, but you can choose to edit a character from the dropdown there. You can also delete or share a character. Image here. More on that later. If you choose to edit a character, it will pull up the form you were presented when you first created them, allowing you to make any changes to the profile that you need or want. Sharing a character is something that we only recommend doing with those you trust - it gives them the ability to access the character's profile and make posts as the character. Generally this is done with NPC characters, but if there's a character that has been created and written between two or more people, it can also be used for that. Just be aware that the entire profile can be modified or deleted by anyone you share it with. And finally, we'll touch on posting. You'll start threads and make replies with your OOC account. There's no switching between accounts to post with this software. Instead, once you've opened the posting page, you'll see a drop down just above the post body that lets you choose characters from a dropdown. You can see a sample of that, using this post, here. Type your post up, choose which character, and post! merc Link to comment
