Guide To Just Imagine

Recommended Posts

Welcome

to just imagine!

Just Imagine is a multi-genre site where you can play a multitude of characters. There is not an overall plot or setting, as you create those when you set up threads with other members. Joining is simple - you post up a member intro outlining what sorts of things you're looking for and what you're not and your posting preferences. Once you've posted that up you can get started on creating character accounts, which we'll go into a bit more further in this guide.

Our goal here is to have a safe, friendly, relaxed, and open environment for people to write in. No pressure, no post requirements beyond what you set up with your writing partners, and the freedom to create whatever you can imagine.

There are several ways to play here, which we'll go into further as well. Please be sure to read through each post in this thread as it sums up the basics for writing here. There are further resources pinned in the appropriate forums to help you get set up once you've joined!

The Rules

our basic guidelines are here

Just Imagine is 18+. Our rating is 333 and 18+. All content is allowed, so long as it stays within US law and abides by our TOS. If you have questions, feel free to reach out and ask.

We welcome all backgrounds, sexualities, creeds, descents, genders, and beliefs both IC and out. We do not tolerate any harassment, phobic attitudes, or behaviors that make this an unsafe space for anyone.

There is no 3 strike rule. We assess each situation individually and act according to the severity of that particular situation.

We do not delete IC content. This is to protect the integrity of the stories told. This goes both for the genre boards and the mini-games.

An OOC account is required. Join with that first, then use the character tab to make and manage your character accounts. Canon names may not be used for OOC accounts.

Character accounts must also be created for each character. For canon characters, there may be multiple people playing the character. Multiples of the same name are allowed so canons may use whatever variation they wish of the name. More details on the way our character accounts work can be found in the guide in this forum.

Post up a player profile first. Since we are focused on 1x1, small groups, and mini-games, a player intro/profile gives you the chance to introduce yourself, list what you're interested in, what you aren't wanting, and also ways to contact you..

There is no character limit or approval process. Since this is a 1x1 oriented site, the main roleplay areas have no restrictions on the number of characters you can play. All you have to do is post a 'stats' claim, though you can go back in and fill out the detailed 'bio' portions later if you want [and we highly recommend it].

BBCode & Dohtml are allowed. Just don't lower the font size to where we can't read it & make sure the font color is readable on all skins. While we do allow dohtml, it works slightly differently as we are self hosted on the current version of invision power board. You will have to tweak codes to work.

We require content warning tags [CW] for squicks & triggers requested in the wants/limits area. These are for squicks and triggers both. No sexual situations are allowed for characters under 18, period - it must be fade to black. Aside from that, games and threads are allowed graphic content of all sorts, so long as CW tags are used.

We have no official activity requirements. Everyone sets their own pace. Communicate with your partners to determine acceptable post rates for everyone. Every other month we'll do a basic check to see who's still active. Those who haven't logged on in that 2 month period will be 'deactivated' and if a further 2 months passes without activity their accounts will be deleted.

We don't require face claims. You are welcome to use them if you wish, however.

We don't require graphics. If you use them, avatars are 250x400. Signatures shouldn't be larger than 500x300.

Member Intro

this is probably the most important ooc bit

As stated in the rules, this section is super necessary. Since this is the form you'll be indicating fandoms [if any], what genres you like, what sorts of plots you want, and what you really don't want to deal with. It's meant to give you a place to introduce yourself and really give others an idea of what you're looking for plot wise and writing partner wise. It's also got spots for you to list contact info and post preferences as far as length, tense, etc..

It is required, and we won't sort you into the writer group until you've filled it out fully, but it's relatively easy to fill out. If you need help figuring the coding bits out feel free to ask one of the staff. We're happy to help with that. If you're unsure of what to put in some sections, take a look at what the other intros have and kind of use them as a guide to fill your own out.

RP Types

a brief outline of the types available

There are several types of roleplay that can be found on Just Imagine. They'll be outlined below.

Please note that staff will not step in with any roleplays to interfere in the running/playing of them unless one of our basic rules is violated. Other than that, we encourage members to work out their issues themselves or simply not write with one another if things can't be worked out.

The most common type of writing here will be 1x1 roleplay. These are self contained plots and worlds that happen in one [or multiple] threads, depending on what the writing partners agree on. These can be fandom based or completely original - and all you have to do to start them is find someone to write with and start a thread in the genre boards. You can also start open threads there for people to claim, if they are interested in the plotline you've set up.

The second type of plot is essentially the same as the above 1x1, but for group plots and stories. As with solo ones, you can set them up however you'd like, and open threads can also be set up. Please be aware that open threads do run a risk of receiving responses you're not happy with - to alleviate this in 1x1 or group opens, outline what you want in an OOC post linked in the first thread or include and OOC blurb before the post with requirements for joining.

The final type of roleplay available here is a 'mini-game'. These are small, self contained games that are run the way a full site roleplay would be, only they have a forum with a few sub-forums here instead of having to set it all up themselves. Those who wish to create one can head over to the mini-game plotting area and propose their ideas. Full requirements to create one are found there, but the basic requirement is 3 people interested in a setting/game idea you have [including yourself]. You have the ability to set up further rules and activity requirements if you want them, so long as your rules stay within the sitewide ones.

Characters

Setting up your character sub-accounts

Every member will have a writer account that has linked character accounts under it. This will allow you to customize avatars and signatures as you like, and allow us to keep track of who plays who easier. We understand it's not to everyone's liking - it is, however, still required.

Once you've set up your writer account and gotten sorted in the right group, you can immediately start to create your character accounts. You'll need to register them just the same as you did your OOC account and then link them.

Once you've set the accounts up, you'll need to post up at least the basic 'stats' of a bio form we've provided. We do recommend eventually filling out the full bio portion, so people are aware of your particular take on a character, but it's not required.

We've included the basics of how to create sub-accounts below, to make things easier for you.

Setting the sub-accounts up is easy!
  • Sign up for your OOC account first!
  • Once that's done and you're sorted to writer, navigate to the 'characters' tab at the top of the site, found next to forums.
  • Click the 'create character' button found on the upper right hand side.
  • This will pop up a form for you to fill out with all the details of your new character.
  • Repeat as needed for all your characters.
  • Remember though, these are for character accounts only! Each member should only have 1 OOC account - and that should be their main account.
